Why Is Business Mentorship & Coaching Important?

It has been said that you are only as good as the company you keep. Having a mentor helps you to level up. We got where we are by this exact process. Mentoring can come via a variety of methods.

Courses and books are a great way to learn what someone has figured out over years in a much shorter period of time. Nothing beats person-to-person though. Someone who can show and explain things carefully that are difficult to understand. Even just the basic coaching concept…building you and giving you unbiased observations.

The only shortcut to success that I am aware of is through proper coaching and mentorship. In all reality, it is probably costing you money in your business development by not seeking mentorship.

I know such was the case for me! The other side of the coin is the expert-in-field who becomes the teacher of others and further cements his own knowledge & wisdom.  The pro now becomes the master by teaching the student.

The advice I would give others who want to achieve success would be this:

  •  Get better every day. Take baby steps, but get better. Learn those new skills that you are lacking.
  • Over deliver. Do the right thing no matter what. Even if it costs you in the short term we truly believe it will come back with an increase down the road.
  • Get a coach. Don’t go it alone. Find someone who has been there that can help you level up!
  • The biggest key to success: Grit. Just have a mindset that you will keep at it. You WILL find a way.  Tough it out! Keep a winning mindset. In my office, I have a replica WWE Championship belt from the 80s on display. It reminds me, to be The Champ! The heavyweight of the world!

The biggest challenge is you will have to be a self-starter. No more boss to peer over your shoulder so you are going to have to be the one to make things happen. Overcome this with your vision of how you see things can be in the not-so-distant future. Also, reward yourself for small victories. Actually, the Macho Man’s Belt was a reward. The 10-Year-old boy in me has been wanting that expensive piece of office decoration for a long time!

People looking to leave the corporate 9-5 should develop solid goals and an action plan and really just get started, Take a leap of faith and see what happens. But, be honest with yourself first. Make sure you are committed to the long haul.
